Alan L. Himber, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Salt Lake-based BSD Medical Corp., has been elected to the additional position of president, succeeding Victor A. Vaguine.

Vaguine resigned to spend more time in managing Vitel Inc., a new high-tech venture, which is developing medical instruments for the diagnosis of osteoporosis in its early stages.Himber also announced that Paul F. Turner, who has been with BSD for 10 years, has been promoted to vice president of research. Turner was chiefly responsible for the invention and design of the hyperthermia system being sold by BSD for the treatment of cancerous tumors with controlled heat from microwave, radio-frequency and ultrasound energy sources.
