City Building Inspector David L. Facer was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after the city truck he was driving skidded off the road.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Al Bigby said Facer, 42, was cited for driving under the influence following the incident on Dec. 22.He declined to say how Facer's blood-alcohol was tested or what the results were.
Facer was arraigned on the misdemeanor charge by a Weber County justice of the peace.Defense attorney Findley P. Gridley entered a plea of not guilty. Trial is scheduled for Feb. 16.
Bigby said Facer was driving a compact pickup truck with city license plates when he apparently drove up to a drive-through window at a market to buy a pack of cigarettes.
He said Facer apparently was attempting a left turn from the store parking lot on when the truck skidded off the road into snow and mud and got stuck.
"He didn't hurt himself, he didn't damage the vehicle and he didn't hurt anyone else," Bigby said.
But upon his arrival at the accident scene, the trooper arrested Facer and booked him into the Weber County Jail for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Facer, on temporary leave from his job, could not be reached for comment.
