Two local theater schools, one on the University of Utah campus and the other connected to a local theater company, are gearing up for new sessions.

- THE YOUTH DRAMA TRAINING PROGRAM of the U.'s theater department is offering a drama training course for students in grades one through seven.Dr. Xan Johnson, professor of child drama, and his staff will teach the program, focusing on developing a student's memory, movement and communication skills, problem-solving abilities, creative thinking and sensitivity.

The course is divided into four sections, each designed to address the developmental needs of various age groups - grades 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8.

Classes are scheduled on Wednesdays from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. in the West Institute Building on University Street, directly across from Pioneer Memorial Theatre. Instruction begins Wednesday Oct. 4 and continues through Dec. 6. Cost is $50 per student and registration (course No. 70Y) is available at the Division of Continuing Education, 1202 Annex Building, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. - THE CITY REP CHILDREN'S THEATRE SCHOOL will begin its fall quarter classes on Tuesday, Oct. 3 and continuing through Dec. 8.

The school provides an integrated program of drama, music and dance at the theater company's base of operations, the Utah Theater, at 148 S. Main.

Students may select one, two or three sessions per week, depending on level of interest. All classes are taught at 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and class size is limited to 15 students. The classes are structured for two age groups - 6-12 and 13-18 years old.

Under direction of City Rep Artistic Director Joanne M. Parker, instructors come from the City Rep staff and will teach basic acting, stage movement, improvisation, voice, memorization, music, dance, mime and other basic theater subjects.

Quarterly fees are $60 for once-weekly sessions, $85 for twice a week and $110 for three times a week. There is also a $10 nonrefundable registration fee for each participant.
