The Peabody ducks are taking their show on the road.
On Oct. 9 the five ducks - famous for parading daily on a red carpet through The Peabody lobby and splashing in its ornate fountain - will begin their second Peabody World Duck Tour. They'll fly to New York for two days of receptions at the Waldorf, said Tootie Madison Haas, public relations director for The Peabody. With them will be the appropriate props: a red carpet and portable fountain, complete with fresh flowers.
At the Waldorf, the ducks will stay in a suite. "They are my roommates, so to speak," said Ms. Haas.
The purpose is to spread the fame of The Peabody hotels in Memphis and Orlando, Fla., among gathered travel agents and meeting planners. Last year they went to Atlanta and Washington. Next year it likely will be Chicago.
OK, but do they go first class?
Yes, but not in the "people" section, said Ms. Haas.
