- THE MAGNA COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL has announced its third annual Literary Arts Contest. Deadline for entries is Tuesday, Oct. 31.
This year there will be a $100 first prize for the entry that makes the greatest literary contribution to the Magna-Garfield area. Each category winner will receive $10.Categories include short story, youth poetry, essay, historical article, anecdotes, recollections, and others.

- MARVIN BELL, a major American poet, will teach a workshop titled "Discovering the Landscape of Poetry: Inner and Outer" for the Snake River Institute in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

- THE MAUD MAY BABCOCK Reading Arts Society has announced its 1989-90 season.
Readings begin Thursday, Oct. 12, with actress Jayne Luke reading dialogue from the female character roles in the plays of Tennessee Williams.
The reading will be at the Gore Theater on the Westminster College campus at 7:30 p.m.
Future programs include a November reading of Garrison Keillor and a Dickens reading in December. For information call 582-5280.
