Jeffrey Leonard of the Seattle Mariners has undergone foot surgery to remove the sesamoid bone from the ball of his right foot, the American League baseball club announced on Monday.

The operation was performed at Providence Hospital by Dr. John McDermott on Friday. Leonard will need four to six weeks to rehabiliate his foot, the team said.Leonard, 34, was used primarily as the Mariners' designated hitter this season. His ailing right foot limited his outfield playing time to just 26 games.
