James C. Fletcher, former NASA administrator and past president of the University of Utah, has joined ICOMP Inc. as a member of its board of directors.
A subsidiary of Globesat Holding Corp., ICOMP has developed technology, with the help of Utah State University and the state Centers of Excellence program, that transmits video images over telephone lines.Company President William Claybaugh said the firm's initial focus will be on video teleconferencing and telephone markets. But, he said the technology has applications for computer image data storage, high-definition television and satellite video image and transmission.
Fletcher recently retired after his second stint as NASA administrator. He first served in the position from 1971-77. Before that he was president of the U. He was asked again to head NASA from 1986 to last April. He has been associated with the President's Science Advisory Committee for more than 13 years and has been on several presidential task forces.
