Fill your tank now! Gasoline prices may be on their way up.
The price jump seen in many areas of the Salt Lake Valley apparently began last week when 7-Eleven instructed its stations to jump from 91.9 cents to 99.9 for regular and unleaded. The company hoped all other stations would follow suit, a source in the company said.
Many areas did, such as the cluster of stations near the 500 South on-ramp. Chevron told the manager of its station on 504 S. West Temple Saturday to raise its prices to 99.9 cents a gallon, said manager Tammy Reid.
The manager of the Flying J gas station across the street promptly raised his prices to 99.9 cents. "I have to match whoever is around," explained Flying J manager Nolan Reid.
But a lot of stations stayed down. "I was driving around last night and a lot of the stations are at 92 cents," Reid said.
When all the stations didn't raise their prices, 7-Eleven told its stations to go back down to 91.9 cents to match the competition, the 7-Eleven official said.
