Loa B. Clawson, longtime performer, choreographer and professor with the University of Utah modern dance department, was appointed recently to a three-year term on the national board of directors of the American College Dance Festival Association.

This is only the latest among many national honors for Clawson, one of the seminal leaders of modern dance in Utah. She began studies in the late 1950s with Elizabeth Hayes and Willam Christensen and was a charter member of both the Repertory Dance Theatre and the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company.In 1978 she founded the U.'s award-winning Performing Danscompany and served as artistic director until recently. She has taught modern dance at the U. since 1969. She has more than 50 choreographies, most of them commissioned or created under faculty or choreographic grants, which are danced by universities and professional companies nationwide.

-JANE WOOD has been promoted to principal solo artist with Ballet West. Wood studied at the Washington (D.C.) School of Ballet, at the Academy of the Washington Ballet and the University of Utah before joining Ballet West in 1981.
