Two prisoners whose presumed escape from the State Prison of Southern Michigan touched off a nationwide search were found hiding in a pile of boxes in a prison shop, officials said.

Steven Mikko, 27, and David Bellah, 42, carved a niche for themselves in loads of cartons in the prison metal shop where they were captured. They had a jug of water, an apple and about 80 feet of rope."They hollowed out the center of the pallet of boxes and were hidden inside. They were going to wait it out and when staff let their guard down, they would then escape," warden John Jabe said.
