The annual deer hunt holiday may have given students in Provo a chance to get out and track down some bucks, but next year the deer will have a holiday from students - schools will be in session.

The Provo Board of Education approved the change at this month's school board meeting, making this year's Oct. 23 deer hunt holiday the last for the district. The change was made following a committee recommendation based on a survey of parents, teachers and staff.

The survey found that 55.2 percent of the parents did not want the one-day deer hunt holiday with 44.8 percent favoring the holiday. The survey includes the response of 1,168 patrons, 329 teachers and 251 classified staffers.

The majority of teachers and classified staff wanted to keep the holiday.
