Fire investigators Monday began sifting for clues in the rubble of a huge, empty warehouse and two-story office structure that were razed by fire early Sunday.

"We won't know where it started or what might have caused it until they get in there," said West Jordan Fire Capt. Ed Larsen, who was supervising the dousing of hot spots and the demolition of structural hazards through most of Sunday. The fire at the old Davidson Lumber Co. complex, 7902 S. 1410 West, was discovered at midnight Saturday and soon filled the sky above West Jordan with burning embers, smoke and soot. Sparks ignited dry grass in adjacent fields, and a nearby home was briefly threatened, said Larsen.

Four fire engines and two ladder trucks were dispatched to the two-alarm blaze, which took firefighters from West Jordan and Midvale about three hours to bring under control.

Crews remained on the scene all day Sunday pouring water onto smoldering debris. Nobody was injured in the fire. The warehouse and office building were a total loss.
