Parents should pay attention to their children's crushes and find opportunities to talk with them about what they find appealing in other people, says a Univerity of Rochester clinical psychologist.

"Many parents don't take puppy love seriously and don't express an interest in what their children find attractive," says Dr. Pieter Leroux. He notes that children's crushes offer clues to their values and to how they look at other people and at themselves.
