University of Utah officials met with basketball Coach Rick Majerus Sunday and reprimanded him for his remarks made last week on a Milwaukee radio station about the sexual behavior of female college athletes.

Athletic Director Chris Hill said he and Majerus met Sunday evening with President Chase Peterson, Women's Athletic Director Fern Gardner and Vice President for University Relations Ted Capener. "He (Majerus) is very remorseful over what happened," said Hill. "He received a reprimand and other items to make sure what happened will not happen again."Hill declined to give specifics of the reprimand but indicated such remarks would not be tolerated. "It did not affect his job, but he knows it will in the future (if it happens again)."

Majerus's comments were picked up on a wire service story, in which he said, "You know, with women's athletics, my experience has been there's a great deal of, and I'll be frank with you here, there's a great deal of irregular sexual behavior."

Hill said he had assurances from the first-year Utah coach that the comments were a mistake and wouldn't happen again. "If it happens again, there will be severe disciplinary action in the future," Hill said.

Hill continued, "Suffice it to say that we've tried to involve the appropriate people and we're trying to make amends. The guy made a mistake and he was wrong and he's sorry about it."
