A 68-year-old Ogden man drowned late Sunday while fishing with a companion near Cutler Dam, about six miles northwest of Logan, the Cache County Sheriff's Department said.

The victim was identified as Hester Dallas, said Sheriff Sid Groll. He said Dallas was fishing with Gus Herbert, 84, also of Ogden, and fell out of a boat about 20 feet from shore, into water about 15 feet deep.

His companion was unable to help, and Groll said Dallas tried to reach the boat or the shore and was unable to do either.
