Democrat Gene Taylor, who bested a well-financed Republican to win a House seat in Mississippi, credited his victory to voters rebelling against outsiders from Washington.
Taylor won a landslide victory Tuesday over Republican Thomas Anderson in Mississippi's 5th Congressional District, breaking a stranglehold the GOP has had on the office since 1972.Taylor, who was outspent 6-to-1 by Anderson during the 50-day campaign, jumped off to a quick lead along the Gulf Coast and in southeast Mississippi shortly after the polls closed and never looked back as returns rolled in from across the 11 1/2-county district.
