CANYON TO GET SIGNAL LIGHT

A traffic signal will be installed at 3650 N. Canyon Road, where a newly constructed road links Canyon Road with University Avenue at 3700 North, but it will take two months to get parts for the signal.

Residents concerned about the hazardous traffic situation at the new intersection submitted a petition with approximately 250 signatures to the City Council on Tuesday, asking that a signal be installed there. There have been a number of accidents in the area since the road was opened several weeks ago.Mayor Joe Jenkins said the city appropriated money for a traffic signal at the intersection as part of the road construction project, but final engineering and design work could not be completed until after the road was finished. Jenkins said that while some parts for the signal are in stock, the city has had to back-order mast arms.

The city will investigate measures that could be used to regulate traffic during the interim, Jenkins said.
