Krista Rodin-Popich will present a two-day intensive course in "The Tales of Hoffmann," on Saturday, Oct. 21, and Sunday, Oct. 22, in the Capitol Theater.
Through the Department of Continuing Education at the University of Utah, those interested can take the course for one hour's credit at $162.50, or for non-credit for $60. Participants may register at the door Saturday morning or in advance by phoning the DCE at the U., 581-6483.Beginning Saturday at 10 a.m., Rodin-Popich will discuss the literary basis of "The Tales of Hoffmann," exploring the original tales. In the afternoon she will discuss Offenbach's transformation of them into an opera, the opera's performance history along with video excerpts from two stage interpretations.
On Sunday at 12:30 p.m., Rodin-Popich will discussion all aspects of the production, to be seen in a 2 p.m. matinee. The cost of the seminar does not include opera tickets.
