SHARE PREP GIRLS SOCCER TOURNAMENTS WILL GET UNDER WAY FOR 1ST TIME

The first state prep girls soccer championships will be decided this week as three days of playoff action on both the 3A and 4A levels begins Thursday.

The 4A tournament will be contested at Westminster College, while the 3A tournament will be played at Orem High School. Both tournaments will conclude with final matches scheduled for noon Saturday at the respective sites.The 4A teams earning the top tournament seed from their regions include Viewmont, Brighton, Taylorsville and Mountain View, but 16 teams paired off in preliminary qualifying play Tuesday. Brighton has been ranked nationally in the USA Today rankings of girls soccer teams.

Top-seeded 3A teams are Ben Lomond and Judge Memorial, with only Region 5 and Region 6 teams participating in the girls soccer tournament.

The prep tournaments are co-sponsored by the Utah High School Activities Association and First Security Bank.
