Mayor David Holdaway presented his ideas for economic development to Pleasant Grove City Council members Tuesday and said he hopes to use them in an economic development policy for the city.

City officials have discussed the topic in past council meetings and are forming a committee aimed solely at promoting economic development in the city.Holdaway asked council members to approve his plans or add ideas of their own. He and City Councilman Bill West will be meeting with potential members of the economic development committee Tuesday, Oct. 24.

The proposal lists eight steps Holdaway believes are the foundation for promoting Pleasant Grove and creating a healthy environment for businesses:

-Evaluate the community and identify its strengths.

-Promote a sound fiscal environment.

-Help businesses identify potential sources of capital.

-Maintain environmental integrity.

-Continue to promote a first-class quality of life.

-Help existing business expand.

-Create new business from within the community.

-Recruit business from outside the area.

The Economic Development Committee would be made up of members from the City Council, Chamber of Commerce, and the planning commission. Citizens from a variety of occupations would also be included, said Holdaway.

City officials decided to shift their focus from capital improvement to economic development last September, after a number of capital improvement projects in the community had been completed.
