SHARE BANDS WIN AWARDS IN 2 DIVISIONS AT DAVIS CUP CONTEST

Seventeen bands from throughout the Mountain West competed in the 17th annual Davis Cup marching band and field-show competition Tuesday evening at Rice Stadium, University of Utah.

Twelve marching bands represented high schools in the Class A division, and five others competed in the open class section.Caption award winners in Class A were: Layton High School, drum major; Springville High School, percussion and marching and maneuvering; Pleasant Grove, music and woodwinds; Roy High School, brass, and Bountiful High School, soloist and auxiliaries.

In the Davis Cup overall category, Springville High placed first, with a score of 73.5 percent; West Jordan came in second (71.2 percent), and Pleasant Grove placed third (69.8 percent).

Open-class caption awards went to Mountain Crest High School, Hyrum, for drum major, percussion, music, marching and maneuvering, soloist and auxiliaries, with Davis High winning the "best brass" award and American Fork earning the "best woodwinds" award.

Overall open-class winners were Mountain Crest, 91.6 percent; Davis High, second, 84.2 percent, and American Fork, third, 83.2 percent.
