Two suspected drug smugglers related to members of the notorious Medellin cocaine cartel in Colombia have been arrested during anti-narcotics operations in Mexico, the attorney general's office announced Thursday.

The two men - nephews of Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha, known as "El Mexicano," and Fabio Ochoa Vazquez - were captured Sunday during anti-drug operations on the Yucatan peninsula near Tizimin, authorities said. Ten other people were arrested in the operation and a separate raid near the beach resort of Cancun.Fausto Valverde Salinas, head of the narcotics division of the attorney general's office, identified the two men as Ricardo Izunza Ochoa, the nephew of Ochoa, and Luis Aguilar Castro, the nephew of Gacha, authorities said.
