A West Bountiful man who pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a child and lewdness will spend 30 days in jail and three years on probation, a 2nd District Court judge ordered Tuesday.
Lynn H. Utley, 43, was originally charged with three counts of sexual abuse of a child, each a second-degree felony carrying a prison term of one to 15 years. In a plea negotiation, Utley pleaded guilty to one charge and the other two were reduced to lewdness, both Class B misdemeanors. The incidents occurred in 1986-87 and involved three young girls, according to court records.
Judge Dougals L Cornaby sentenced Utley to prison on the felony charge, then stayed the prison term and ordered him to spend 30 days instead in jail, with the jail time for the two lewdness charges to run concurrently.
Utley will have to go into an inpatient sexual treatment center after his jail term, and the judge ordered him to remain on probation for three years. Utley was also ordered to pay for any counseling his victims may need.
