HAMMOND, SEEKING HIS SECOND CONSECUTIVE PGA TOUR VICTORY, HIT HIS DRIVE ON THE PAR-4 FINAL HOLE BEHIND A TREE. HE PUT HIS SECOND SHOT INTO A BUNKER, CHIPPED UP 20 FEET SHORT OF THE GREEN AND TWO-PUTTED.Simpson, who preserved his share of the lead with a 12-foot par putt on No. 17, tapped in for a par on the final hole for a 2-under-par 70 and a 72-hole score of 272. Hammond had a 71 for 273. Simpson, ranked 10th on the money list coming into the tournament, earned his second victory this year and $144,000. Hammond and Simpson were even on the scoreboard for most of the round. They overcame charges by Paul Azinger and Curtis Strange.
