The Salt Lake Police Association has withdrawn its legal support for a former police sergeant who is appealing his termination.

Former Sgt. Mike Fierro was terminated Sept. 29 after the administration determined he violated a direct order to stop seeing another officer's wife.Fierro, a 14-year veteran whose most recent assignment was with the gang unit, has appealed the termination, saying his conduct was off-duty and did not interfere with his job performance. He has been granted a hearing Nov. 17 with the city civil service commission.

David Greer, president of the police association, said the organization was anxious to help Fierro in the appeal until an investigation discovered that Fierro had tried to conceal certain facts from the association.
