ICD Corp., an educational software company, has received a Small Business Innovation Research grant from the U.S. Department of Education to examine the feasibility of a multimedia approach to teach science to Spanish-speaking junior high students with limited English proficiency.

Verl Woodbury, chief executive officer of the company, will direct the project with Ed Green, professor of instructional science at Brigham Young University, and Eric Bjarnson, company marketing director.Woodbury said, "The final outcome of this research grant in the next few years hopefully will be some powerful, new instructional tools that we will make available to all educators."

The final research report will detail the investigation and also propose a plan for developing a product. If DOE approves the plan, a two-year $200,000 contract could be forthcoming.
