Construction has started on Sunbrook, a resort community on 554 acres west of Green Valley bordering on the Santa Clara River and extending south to the foothills.
Tony Allen, Sunbrook Development president, said the property ranges from river bottom farmland to high desert plateaus, giving him the opportunity to create a unique community development plan distinct from other planned communities. The project will feature cascading water at the entrance, an 80-foot wide divided entryway with landscaped median, building sites on single-loaded streets to maximize the view, residential streets with stamped intersections and subdivision monuments.
Allen said the majority of the sites overlook an 18-hole golf course being designed by Ted Robinson. The course is 75 percent complete. Constructed at a cost of $4 million, the golf course is being financed by First Security Bank of Utah and will be owned by St. George City.
Other amenities found at Sunbrook will include a clubhouse with food service, tennis and swimming facilities lakes, and water features continuity. Rock quarried from the site will be used around tee boxes, greens and sand traps on the golf course to blend new facilities with the old, Allen said.
The golf course will be open for play June 1, 1990, and the marketing and sales programs for the residential community are under way.
