A St. George man who lost a leg in a 1987 motorcycle accident has filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against the driver of the other vehicle in the accident, the city of St. George, and the LDS Church.

The 5th District Court suit, filed on behalf of Denver Strickling, seeks damages from the city and church and also asks the court to determine the percentage of negligence of all the defendants. The suit says Kevin Sayer, then 16 years old, made an improper left turn into the path of Strickling's motorcycle. Sayer was attempting to cross a road diagonally to a church chapel driveway near the intersection, court documents state.

Strickling, then 38 years old, was taken to the Dixie Medical Center emergency room where his right leg eventually was amputated above the knee.
