Salt Lake firefighters fought through a wall of fire Friday morning to rescue a man trapped in the rear of his home.

Salt Lake Fire Battalion Chief Gordon Nicholl said the front of the house at 721 S. 800 East was fully involved when firefighters arrived about 5:30 a.m. He said the man was trapped in the rear of the home and was calling for help. The fire caused about $15,000 damage to the living room, bedroom and attic areas of the single-story structure.

Nicholl said investigators suspect a natural gas leak involving a floor furnace sparked the blaze. Investigation is continuing.
