Norman Fox, the chief deputy clerk of the federal court in Utah, has retired after more than 10 years of service to the court.

Raised in Pocatello, Fox graduated from Weber State College. During World War II, he was captain of landing craft support in the Navy.In 1947, Fox earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Utah, and in 1950, his law degree.

Following a career as an insurance industry executive that culminated in his being named a vice president of Southland Life, Fox returned to Utah in 1974 to practice law in the firm of Roe and Fowler.

In 1979 he embarked on another career, this one in court administration, when the federal judges in Utah appointed him chief deputy clerk.

The court's clerk, Markus Zimmer, praised Fox's accomplishments and said he was a "talented and dedicated public servant whose usefulness to the court was invaluable, particularly in view of his executive-level experience in the private sector."
