Edward S. Mansueto, a graduate chemistry student at the University of Utah, has won one of three 1989 Proctor and Gamble student awards for physical chemistry from the American Chemistry Society's Division of Physical Chemistry.

The award, which includes a $2,500 prize, goes annually to predoctoral students in their third year or beyond, who are major authors of papers published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry and whose quality of research is judged highest among those nominated.Mansueto's article, which was coauthored by U. assistant professor of chemistry Charles A. Wight and C.Y. Ju, was entitled, "Laser-Initiated Polymerization of Solid Formaldehyde."

Another winner, Sarah S. Hunicutt, received her master of science degree from the U. in 1986 and is working toward her doctorate at the University of Cincinnati.
