The 957th and last of the Soviet OTR-23 short-range missiles, known in the West as the SS-23, is exploded at the Saryozek test range in the Soviet Central Asian republic of Kazakhstan. The official Tass news agency said the missile and those destroyed before it had been exploded in keeping with a treaty with the United States that bans them.
