"Young people's withdrawal from the Komsomol is one of the signs of the crisis this social-political organization of Soviet youth is undergoing," the official news agency said.Chairman Victor Mironenko told a Komsomol congress at its Friday opening that the organization has 32 million members but is lagging far behind the political reforms occuring in other parts of Soviet society. For that reason, Mironenko said, members were deserting Komsomol for less official groups.
