A Clarksville, Tenn., man who decorated his light aircraft last year to look like a Christmas sleigh now has draped it with a costume for Halloween - two witches and a spooky, flashing light.
"I really do it for the novelty . . . for the kids, because they think anything's possible, and it makes them see that anything you want to do is possible," said Freddie Roberts.Roberts, a furniture builder in this city 45 miles northwest of Nashville, flies a home-built gyrocopter. He's attached to it two foam "witches" who have green faces and warts.
After several forced landings caused by a problem with his fuel tank, Roberts said he has the machine working well enough to spook his neighbors.
He said his wife "hates for me to fly because I've broken a few ribs." Last year, he was hurt when his "sleigh" hit a rock and flipped several times on takeoff.
