Utah onion production for this year is forecast at 74.8 million pounds - up 9 percent over last year, according to the Utah Agricultural Statistics Service.

Yield per acre, at 44,000 pounds, is up sharply from last year's yield of 38,000 pounds per acre. Growers are expected to harvest only 1,700 acres this year - 100 acres less than last year.Nationally, summer storage onion production, at 2,500 million pounds, is slightly above last year's level.
