A Midvale man admitted Friday to shooting his friend and burying the body in his back yard last spring.

Originally charged with second-degree murder, John V. Holloway, 47, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter before 3rd District Judge Pat Brian, who scheduled sentencing for Jan. 26. In the meantime, Holloway has been sent to Utah State Prison for a 90-day evaluation.Holloway admitted shooting Peter Henriquez, 32, whose body was found June 9 in Holloway's back yard.

The two had been drinking heavily the night before in Holloway's bedroom, police testified in a preliminary hearing. Though the victim's blood-alcohol level was lethally high, an autopsy determined he died of a gunshot wound to the head, said prosecutor Howard Lemcke.
