Dave Stewart is already the people's choice. Now he's MVP of the World Series, too.

Stewart took control of the Series for Oakland when he shut out San Francisco, 5-0, on five hits in Game 1. He won the hearts of the Bay area with his concern after the earthquake on Oct. 17.The A's completed a four-game sweep of the Series on Saturday, beating San Francisco 9-6, and Stewart was selected the MVP by a media panel.

Stewart stood in the interview room after the game with his mother proudly at his side.

"If I could split this trophy in 24 different directions, and even the coaching staff, I would do that gladly," Stewart said.

"I'm very proud," Mrs. Stewart said. "This is an accomplishment that he's well do."
