Metal salvage from the city landfill is apparently being stolen and the City Council is asking Juab County Sheriff Dave Carter to help stop the thefts.

Carter will be asked to patrol the area and keep watch for the thieves. Butch Buckely, landfill caretaker, shares salvage rights with the city. Buckley said as soon as he gathers enough metal that is usable, it disappears.Locked gates do not stop the thefts, he said. Recently, the landfill gate was removed from its hinges. Thieves took a number of batteries Buckely was preparing to take to a dealer.

Buckley said metal of all types that can be redeemed for money is being stolen.
