Southern Utah State College police were searching for the mother of a newborn girl found Saturday behind a toilet in a ladies' restroom at the SUSC Centrum.

Campus Police Chief Jim Turner said the infant was found about 5:30 p.m. by two Cedar City residents, Raquel Eves and Maria Oman. The child was abandoned and needed immediate treatment, he said. She was taken to Valley View Medical Center, where she was in good condition, he said.

The police investigation is focusing on locating the mother, whose "mental and physical condition is a concern to us," Turner said.
