A thermonuclear weapon detonated 1,850 feet beneath the Nevada desert Tuesday sent rumbles through the Las Vegas Valley and was felt at ground level and in high-rise buildings more than 100 miles from ground zero.

The nuclear test, code named "Hornitos," had a yield of 20 to 150 kilotons, compared to the 13-kiloton weapon that was dropped on Hiroshima during World War II.Department of Energy spokesman Jim Boyer said the nation's ninth announced weapons test this year was a success.
