The Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will accept applications until Dec. 1 for its Leadership Utah program, which brings together 35 people who want to learn more about their state and community and the issues facing them.
A committee will select the group based on educational background, work history and current position, a demonstration of interest in the community, aspirations to serve on boards, aspiration to have leadership positions in their company, a strong likelihood they will remain in the area for five years and a full endorsement from their employer.Participants meet once each month for 10 months to hear speakers and take tours on such subjects as community overview, state government and taxation, the arts, law enforcement and crime, tourism and tourist development, economic development, education, Utah's culture, local government and transportation and volunteerism.
The tuition is $700 for Chamber members in good standing and $1,000 for non-members. The fee must be paid in full before the first session and it covers the cost of meals, transportation, activities, materials and program administration.
