SHARE CONFEREES ON INTERIOR BILL OK $4 MILLION FOR CANYONLANDS

Conferees on the 1990 Interior appropriations bill approved $4 million to build a visitors center at Canyonlands National Park, Sen. Jake Garn, R-Utah, said Thursday.

Garn, a member of the conference that is resolving differences in House and Senate versions of the bill, said the conferees also gave a 5 percent across-the-board operating fund increase to Utah's national parks.They voted to approve $750,000 for a tar sands research program at the University of Utah, and $101,000 to mark and improve the Kokopellis Mountain Bike Trail between Loma, Colo., and Moab. Toilets, grills and other amenities will be provided on the 18-mile route. Garn rode part of the trail, near Moab, last summer.
