A 9-year-old girl was struck and killed Thursday morning as she was walking to school.

The girl, whose name was not released pending notification of her father, was walking north across 4700 South just east of 3200 West about 8:10 a.m. when she was struck by an eastbound car, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Robinson.The vehicle carried the girl about 100 feet. She was dead at the scene.

Robinson said the girl was walking to Truman Elementary School and was in a crosswalk with a crossing guard.

Robinson would not release the name of the driver, a 31-year-old Taylorsville resident.
