Salvador solved one of its two embassy crises Friday when human rights protesters freed 12 hostages from the Costa Rican diplomatic mission.

The hostages and 20 protesters were taken from the embassy in Red Cross jeeps, ending a one-day siege without incident.A ring of riot and assault police around the embassy opened up to allow the jeeps through, and no efforts were made to arrest the 20 protesters, members of a group of relatives of disappeared persons.
