Douglas T. Snarr, founder and chairman of Satellite Network Affiliates, has been named campaign chairman for the American Lung Association of Utah's 1989-90 statewide Christmas Seal Campaign.
Beginning this month, more than 40 million households across the country will receive Christmas Seals in the mail."Donations to Christmas Seals fund the American Lung Association's public health educational and biomedical research," said Snarr, a Salt Lake businessman. "Ninety percent of the money raised through donations to Christmas Seals remain at the local lung association to support the association's dedication to the prevention, cure and control of all lung diseases and some of their related causes, including smoking, air pollution and occupational lung hazards."
Lung diseases, including lung cancer, is the third most common cause of death in America. In fact, the lung disease mortality rate is rising faster than any other major disease category in this country.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, 83.3 million American men, women and children have a chronic respiratory disease. More than 15,000 Utah children, ages 14 and younger, suffer from asthma alone.
