Blind singer Ronnie Milsap presented a $1,000 check to the United Way campaign, saying he remembers times when he was needy.

"Helping people makes you feel good," he said. "I know. There have been times I needed a helping hand and times I was able to lend a helping hand."Milsap made the donation to the Combined Federal Campaign, the annual United Way effort by federal employees.

Milsap's hit records include "Lost in the '50s Tonight (In the Still of the Night)," "It Was Almost Like a Song" and "Stranger in My House."
