Jan Robinson, West Bountiful, has an unusual way of celebrating her birthday every year. She dresses up in funny costumes and delivers presents - everything from flowers to cakes - to her relatives, usually at their workplaces.

Robinson, who turned 36 Thursday, didn't disappoint her parents, Gordon and Marie Deakin, South Jordan, or her brother and seven sisters, who all live in the Salt Lake area.Sure enough, she turned up during the day to surprise and delight each one with a gift.

One sister, Donna Porter, who works in the Deseret News library, got her visit about noon. Robinson, who dressed up last year as a disheveled bag lady, showed up at the Deseret News as a flower child.

She scattered dried rose petals over Porter's desk and gave her a balloon and vase of roses. Porter surprised her sister by handing her a small birthday cake.

Robinson began her birthday antics nine years ago and has dressed as a clown with a big red nose on several occasions.

"Normally, she is very sedate, although with a good sense of humor and lots of creativity," Porter said of her sister, who works at Aunt Addy's gift store in Farmington.

Robinson said too many people feel lonely or forgotten on their birthdays, especially if they don't get a card, a gift or a telephone call from a friend or relative.
