A year after graduation, a higher percentage of 1988 Utah State University graduates are employed in Utah than at any time since placement surveys began nine years ago.

The survey, completed by the university's Career Placement Office, shows 57 percent of the 1988 graduates who responded to the survey are working in Utah, an increase of 3 percent from a year ago.David Hart, director of career placement at USU, said the Utah economy seems a little stronger than some economists felt it would be. "But overall, I'm impressed with the consistency - the number working, the number unemployed and the number working in jobs related to their educational training - all remain fairly constant year to year," he said.

Of those graduates who received questionnaires, 79 percent or 1,704 responded and only 34 or 2 percent reported they were unemployed. Of those reporting they were working, 95 percent were in jobs related to their college major.

The survey showed 71 percent of those responding were working full-time, 4 percent were working part-time or seasonally, 19 percent were continuing their education and 4 percent weren't seeking employment.
