The historic Zion Lodge, in southwestern Utah's Zion National Park, will be restored to its original exterior appearance, park officials said Monday.
"Construction will begin this winter to restore the lodge's exterior to its traditional natural stone and timber architecture," said park superintendent Harold Grafe.Union Pacific Railroad architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood designed the original lodge in the 1920s. The two-story building was destroyed by a 1966 fire and was rebuilt in just 100 days.
"Over that winter, we threw up this temporary structure and now it's been up for more than 20 years," said Grafe.
