A Salt Lake County girl has been charged with being intoxicated and criminally negligent in connection with the fiery automobile crash that killed three of her Alta High School classmates on the day of the school's homecoming.

The girl, 16, was charged Tuesday with three counts of automobile homicide in the Sept. 29 deaths of Justin B. Brown, 16, Giobert Castaneda, 16, and Tom Duke, 18.She faces an arraignment Nov. 15 before 3rd District Juvenile Court Judge Sharon McCully.

According to Salt Lake County sheriff's office reports, the girl was driving her father's Porsche east on Dimple Dell Drive about 1 p.m.

As she drove around a slight curve near 2300 East, she apparently lost control of the vehicle, which skidded about 250 feet before slamming into a concrete barrier. Investigators have said the car was traveling about 80 mph.

A few seconds later, the vehicle burst into flames, but the girl escaped with minor injuries.

The prosecutor assigned to the case refused to say what the girl's blood-alcohol level was.
